Impotence Glossary
Here is The Viagra Chronicles’ Glossary of Impotence.
ACE inhibitors: A drug that inhibits Angiotensin Converting Enzyme). This enzyme is important to the formation of angiotensin II, that causes arteries in the body to constrict – and raises the blood pressure. ACE inhibitors lower the blood pressure by relaxing the arteries. ACE inhibitors are therefore used for blood pressure control and congestive heart failure. Viagra has not been reported to cause symptoms of low blood pressure in patients taking ace inhibitors (e.g., enalapril).
Aging: The process of becoming older. Each culture treats aging different. Sex can become more complex for old people, but with the help of medicine and healthy lifestyle old people can enjoy their sex life.
Alcohol abuse: Use of alcoholic beverages to excess. Mixing Viagra with alcohol is usually not a problem, but you shouldn’t treat the booze like it was water.
Alpha blocker: A drug that blocks receptors in arteries and smooth muscle. This action relaxes the blood vessels and leads to an increase in blood flow and a lower pressure for the control of hypertension. Be very careful mixing Viagra with an alpha blocker medicament! Taking Viagra within four hours of taking an alpha-blocker, a group of drugs used to treat high blood pressure and enlarged prostates, could cause fainting, as both drugs lower the blood pressure.
Antibiotic: A drug used to treat infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms. Always consult your doctor or the pharmacist about mixing Viagra (or other PDE-5 drug) with antibiotics.
Antidepressants: Anything, and especially a drug, used to prevent or treat depression. Those drugs may not work well combined with Viagra, Levitra or Cialis. Please consult your doctor!
Beta blocker: By blocking the action of the sympathetic nervous system on the heart, beta blockers relieve stress on the heart; they slow the heart beat, lessen the force with which the heart muscle contracts, and reduce blood vessel contraction in the heart, brain, and throughout the body. There is no proof that mixing Viagra (or any other PDE-5 drug) with beta blockers causes problems, but be careful. It is always better to ask the doctor before mixing those two drugs.
Blood pressure: The blood pressure is the pressure of the blood within the arteries. Taking Viagra when suffering from high blood pressure can be dangerous. If your blood pressure is too high, then increasing the blood flow (which is the affect of Viagra) can be dangerous. Also if you are diagnosed with hypotension, viagra may be dangerous for you.
Brain: That part of the central nervous system that is located within the cranium (skull). Please use your brain when taking medications! Take them with care. Use them wisely. If you’re not sure about something – ask your doctor. It may save your life!
Bypass: An operation in which a surgeon creates a new tubular pathway for the movement of fluids and/or other substances in the body. Men can enjoy sex after having a bypass operation! But please consult your doctor first.
Cancer: An abnormal growth of cells which tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled way and, in some cases, to metastasize (spread). Some types of cancer (Lukemia) make it impossible to use Viagra. For others, Cialis may be the cure. Consult your doctors before using any PDE-5 drug in case you have cancer.
Cardiovascular disease: Disease affecting the heart or blood vessels.
Cocaine: The most potent stimulant of natural origin, a bitter addictive anesthetic (pain blocker) which is extracted from the leaves of the coca scrub indigenous to the Andean highlands of South America. Mixing cocaine with Viagra may be fatal!
Diabetes mellitus: Better known just as “diabetes” — a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels of the sugar glucose in the blood. Diabetes is due to one of two mechanisms:
(1) Inadequate production of insulin (which is made by the pancreas and lowers blood glucose) or
(2) Inadequate sensitivity of cells to the action of insulin.
The two main types of diabetes correspond to these two mechanisms and are called insulin dependent (type 1) and non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes. In type 1 diabetes there is no insulin or not enough of it. In type 2 diabetes, there is generally enough insulin but the cells upon it should act are not normally sensitive to its action.
Diarrhea: The opposite of constipation. The word “diarrhea” with its odd spelling is a near steal from the Greek “diarrhoia” meaning “a flowing through.” Plato and Aristotle may have had diarrhoia while today we have diarrhea. Viagra, Cialis and Levitra may cause diarrhea. If it’s too heavy or chronic, see your doctor.
Dysfunction: Difficult function or abnormal function.
Ejaculate: To ejaculate is to release semen during an orgasm in a male.
Erectile dysfunction: A common men’s health problem characterized by the consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse or the inability to achieve ejaculation, or both. Impotence can vary. It can involve a total inability to achieve an erection or ejaculation, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only very brief erections. Erectile dysfunction is also called impotence.
Headache: A pain in the head with the pain being above the eyes or the ears, behind the head (occipital), or in the back of the upper neck. headache is one of the possible side effects of Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. It is possible that you will have headaches by using Viagra, but not by using Levitra, for example.
Heart attack: The death of heart muscle due to the loss of blood supply. The loss of blood supply is usually caused by a complete blockage of a coronary artery, one of the arteries that supplies blood to the heart muscle. Death of the heart muscle, in turn, causes chest pain and electrical instability of the heart muscle tissue.
High blood pressure: Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure is, by definition, a repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg. If you suffer from hypertension you must ask you doctor before using Viagra, Levitra or Cialis (or any other such drug).
HIV: Taking Viagra has nothing to do with HIV!!!
Impotence: A common problem among men characterized by the consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse or the inability to achieve ejaculation, or both. It can involve a total inability to achieve an erection or ejaculation, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only very brief erections.
Libido: 1. Sexual drive. 2. In psychoanalysis, the psychic energy from all instinctive biological drives.
Low blood pressure: Any blood pressure that is below the normal expected for an individual in a given environment. Low blood pressure is also referred to as hypotension. Please consult your doctor if your are diagnosed with hypotension and think of using Viagra or such drug.
Marijuana: A very common street and recreational drug that comes from the marijuana plant. Also referred to as Cannabis. The effect of Cannabis on libido or erection may vary.
Stroke: The sudden death of some brain cells due to a lack of oxygen when the blood flow to the brain is impaired by blockage or rupture of an artery to the brain. Both men and women may have problems with sexual function after a stroke. Medications called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (Viagra or Cialis) may be helpful. Consult your doctor whether these drugs are right for you. Talking with a therapist may also help.
Therapy: The treatment of disease.
